Coming soon in Germany?

The “International Sports Media Cup” will soon be held in Germany for the first time. Journalists from many countries compete against each other in small fields.

What is important is not the victory, but above all the exchange among themselves – and the symposium associated with the tournament. With prominent guests, sports policy topics from the areas of manipulation in reporting, violence in football stadiums and sports psychology and sports medicine will be discussed.

For the first time, the German journalist football team was invited to the Sports Media Cup 2011 in Ukraine. This was followed by events in Poland, Lithuania, Armenia, Egypt and Moldova. Now the (sports) journalistic world is to be a guest of friends in Germany.

Of course, we are not a profit-oriented group. Nevertheless, we need financial support for the implementation of the tournament. Sponsors are therefore welcome. In return, we offer partners and sponsors the communication possibilities around the tournament, the details can be configured together.

Dear football friends,
that’s pretty much the last thing we expected: the war is in the middle of Europe.

Ukraine is under attack.
It really wasn’t long ago that we played football with each other and against each other. Three years ago, in September, we met at our Lithuanian friends, together with the teams from Moldova, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia and Egypt. As always, we experienced our friends especially from Russia and Ukraine or Belarus as peaceful people and friends. And everyone else, of course.
A few days before in April 2019, we had met in beautiful Odessa, on the Black Sea coast of the Ukrainians. It was a great time and a great tournament. As we have learned today, Odessa was also attacked militarily.
As of today, it is more than questionable whether and when we will be able to meet again to play football. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is of great concern to us, especially for our friends in Ukraine, who live in the city of Kharkiv, where we played in 2011, which was also attacked today, or in Kiev or Odessa. This is not the right place to go into more detail about the political events. But it is the right place to explain that we are in great concern and that we consider playing football together to be an instrument that can definitely prevent any kind of war. Anyway, when it comes to those who have played in the tournaments, because no one wants to wage war against their friends. Despite all the different opinions, the players from the different Eastern European countries still got along well.
“Play more football!”, one might think, but we also don’t want to be naïve to present things in such a simplified way. Of course, we condemn the Russian approach, but that alone will not help anyone.

Our good friend Fred Ape died on 9.11.2020 of sudden heart failure.
Each of us can remember wonderful moments with him. He was a great goalkeeper, in Lithuania and in Odessa he was voted goalkeeper of the tournament, but above all Fred was a great person.
We will let him live on in our hearts.
